PORTO (31.03. - 03.04.2025)
Porto in Four Days:
Always an adventure with delicious food π·π¦, fascinating architecture ποΈ, and unforgettable sunsets π
Porto in the North π§ of Portugal π΅πΉ
The hometown of port wine π·π stretches along the Douro River π, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean π This location makes Porto incredibly charming, wonderful, special, and unique β€ We, at least π«, can never get enough of Porto π
Starting with Vila Nova de Gaia π
Gaia is located across from Porto on the Douro River π and is famous for its variety of port wine cellars π·, inviting visitors for tours and wine tastings π·
Additionally, Vila Nova de Gaia boasts excellent beaches π π π and a promenade lined with fantastic bars π½πΉ and restaurants.
Next, crossing the iconic bridge π “Ponte Dom LuΓs,” which connects Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia.
Architects say this bridge is a masterpiece from the 19th century. It offers breathtaking views π from both the upper β¬ and lower β¬ levels – over the Douro π, the port wine cellars π·, and the city of Porto.
In Portoβs upper old town lies the π« SΓ£o Bento train station. This station is not just a transport hub but also a true work of art. Its walls are adorned with stunning Azulejos πΌ (tiles) depicting scenes from Portuguese history.
Just a few minutes’ walk from SΓ£o Bento, you’ll find the infamous bookstore π Lello.
The Livraria Lello π is one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world π With its impressive architecture and winding staircase, it attracts visitors from across the globe π It is even said to have inspired Harry Potter π©βπ author J.K. Rowling π±ββ while she lived in Porto and wrote the first Harry Potter books.
Finally, a culinary π½ specialty from Porto that should be tried at least once π΅βπ«
It’s called “Francesinha” – a hearty sandwich π₯ͺ topped with ham π, sausage π₯, and steak π₯©, then covered in melted cheese π§ and drowned in a spicy tomato sauce π
π
Unfortunately, that wasnβt for us! π€’
But, as with everything in the world, taste is subjective π
